Description - Chimonobambusatumidissinoda. " The Walking Stick Bamboo
"
-
ChimonobambusaTumidissinoda. The Walking Stick Bamboo. A stunning very delicate leaf bamboo which is a relativelysmall in stature and that enjoys light shade. This wonderful and still rarebamboo was only brought out of China for the first time in 1987. Used for centuries to make walking sticks by the Yipeople in Szechwan this bamboo remaineda closely kept secret. This particular Chimonobambusa is gorgeous, large saucershaped nodes and dainty leaves call for a solitary position to show off thisbeauty. Keep in a sheltered spot for best performance. Beware this is avigorous runner and can spread as almost fast as you can run, best confined topots and planters.
Chimonobambusa is a genus of bamboo common to China and Taiwan, where they can usually be seen inhabiting the forest floors enjoying the cooler moist environment.
Being leptomorphic this genus has a formidable reputation for its vigorous spreading habits and needs to be curbed with a rhizome barrier or grown in containers.
Except where indicated on the left mostare quite easy to grow with only an annual hair cut and brush out toworry about. A good organic mulching and an annual feed is always appreciated.Remember to let fallen leaves compost down around the plant to replace valuablesilica.
Most Chimonobambusa prefer the cool of light or dappled shade apart from that they are not particularabout the soil they are in but preferring heavier richer soils that can be keptevenly moist but not waterlogged.
Once the plants are established they are fairlydrought tolerant however they need to be kept watered until they have a properfoothold.
On the whole mostly pest free. Maybe anoccasional attack of Aphids, Mealy bugs, Vine weevil or the dreaded mite.If you don't mind chemicals spray with a propriety insecticide or alternativelyuse one of the organic sprays now available. If mites are the problem cut downthe canes and burn them along with any fallen leaves and spray the surroundingarea with miticide.
